What Happens After You Sign Up For A Marathon

So, evidently my body was taken over by an alien who didn’t hear me say (over and over again) these past few months that I was DONE with full marathons. Because on Thursday, I registered for the WDW Marathon (regular registration to the general public begins April 22nd or right now if you’re a DVC member or annual passholder).

See #3. Seriously.

Although I truly still do not know what possessed me to sign up (although I mostly blame Patty over at No Guilt Life because she was on the fence and evidently to make herself feel better she pushed me over;),  I do know a few things that happen RIGHT AFTER you register for a full marathon. Because they happened to me this week.

  1. You think “oh, Crap, what did I just do.”
  2. You immediately start looking at the calendar to figure out your training schedule. And you see things on the calendar like your family vacation. And your birthday. And Christmas. And you wonder “Oh, Crap, what did I just do.”
  3. SHOPPING. Because it’s impossible to train for a marathon without new gear. I don’t have a scientific study to support this but I don’t need one. Because I also don’t need a scientific study to prove to me that chocolate tastes good. I know, right? Plus your sweet husband will surprise you with an Easter gift of a cute bike for “cross training” or just for riding around looking adorable (see pic above)
  4. You talk other innocent people (who were just having a good day thinking how great it was that they weren’t training for a marathon) into running the marathon with you. Sorry, Sara, but it had to be done. I don’t make up the rules.
  5. You get really really excited. Because the truth is, it’s going to be amazing, it’s going to be fun (most of the time) and it’s a great excuse to get out of saying yes to boring things (“wow, we’d love to help you move and then watch the slide show from your trip to Maui but Jen’s training for a marathon so . . . .” yes, Scott loves this part).

So if you’ve just signed up for your first marathon, God help you. In fact, God help all of us.

And God bless all of you running Boston on Monday! I will be watching from my family room and you will be inspiring me in more ways than I can say. It’s going to be a powerful day to be sure.

And since it’s the Saturday before Easter, I’m also gonna post this for you. Because it’s awesome. And because this, right here, is what motivates everything I do. The running, the parenting, the pastoring, the living. I need you, Jesus. Thank you for what you did on the cross. Happy Easter, Everybody. I know it’s not tomorrow yet, but I’m gonna say it anyway. He is Risen. He is Risen, Indeed.

  1. Love this! Same thing happened to me this week – except I signed up for 2 marathons. Found out on Monday that I got into Chicago (which is Oct 12th) and signed up for Goofy (Jan 2015). Thanks for posting the song. We all need HIM – Happy Easter!
