You Can Call Me Madam Captain Ambassador – Working With SkirtSports and So Excited! And A Discount Code!

3 years ago, when I started writing Running For My Life, if you had told me that I would get an email from a great company that said this:

“Welcome to Skirt Sports, Jennifer Lefforge!”

I would have called you a crazy, delusional liar. For reals.

When I put in my application I figured it was a long shot. But I bought my first Skirt Sport running skirt on sale at a sporting goods store 5 years ago, and they’ve been my first choice ever since. And it’s not just the product I love, it’s the company.

Me running the Chicago Marathon in Skirt Sports Gym Girl Ultra with capris underneath (I didn’t own the capri skirt yet, I do now, THANK GOD;)

Nicole DeBoom’s story is a GREAT one. You really should read the whole thing here but if you don’t have time for that (after all, you people are out there running your butts off and changing the world in your jobs and families) just know that Nicole was a professional triathlete who thought women athletes deserved better than what she saw in the market in 2004.

So she created a company where we can have clothes that are not only crazy practical and work even for 26.2 miles, but are cute! I am a fan of both form AND function, and my Skirt Sports apparel has not let me down yet on either front.

Last year, Skirt Sports teamed up with Kathrine Switzer. Yes, THAT Kathrine Switzer, that woman who, in 1967, was the first woman to officially finish the Boston Marathon. If you haven’t read her amazing biography, Marathon Woman, I HIGHLY recommend you do so. Right now. Well, maybe finish reading my words first, but then you really should go read that. Oh, and look! They carry it at Skirt Sports (so you may want to read to the end before you order it).

Kathrine has inspired so many women with one word – FEARLESS.

I love it because it works for me, a 40 something working mom trying to balance my life and still make time for things like getting my teeth cleaned (I’m going here in a bit – I really don’t have time for that, can’t they come here?). But it also works for the woman living in a place where she feels powerless in her own life. We all know it’s true – becoming an athlete empowers women. At least it empowered me.

Just yesterday, I re-listened to the Another Mother Runner podcast (episode #101) where they interviewed Kathrine Switzer and she said something I loved.

“If you can’t find inspiration in your own life, you can BECOME the inspiration.”

IN.

So what does this mean for you?

Well, today, it means a discount code. And in the coming months it will mean great opportunities to get involved with Skirt Sports races (both actual and virtual, like the one coming up April 18th!) and giveaways and lots of adorable pics of me in Skirt Sports attire! (yes, you may roll your eyes at that one;).

My outfit for Saturday. 13.1, Baby! So excited to be fearless!

So head over to Skirt Sports and use the discount code SSRPM20.

It can even be used for the Virtual Runs! I did  one last year and it’s a great way to get in some mileage, get great swag, get a gift certificate for more great running stuff AND share in all the fun as other woman around the country are running “with” you. I LOVE it!

When you’re putting together your order, keep in mind their sizing guide. I find their products run very true to size. I’m 5’6″ and pretty average sized and I wear a medium in the skirts and either a small or medium in the tops. I don’t like anything too fitted around my middle, especially when I’m racing, so I’ll usually opt for a medium. And their bras are THE BEST. Seriously.

More to come! And oh yeah, doesn’t somebody have a half marathon coming up in 2 days? Um, yes, ME!! And it’s time to carb load so I gotta go get a bagel or something.

Happy Running!!

Jen

    1. Woke up this morning a little nervous! I so rarely do local races that I kind of don’t know what to do with myself today – I keep forgetting it’s actually happening! So weird.
