5K a Day May! Woohoo!!

ETA WE HAVE A HASHTAG! Thanks to a great reader who suggest #5KadayinMay. So post your photos, comments, blogs, whatever and use that hashtag so we can all support each other. Woohoo!
So I have to admit I was sort of hoping you people would forget all about the 5K a Day in May challenge. After I signed up for the WDW Marathon I sort of hoped to just kinda, um, coast through the next couple of months.

But NO. You had to text me and message me and put on the FB wall that you wanted to do it and was it still on and was I still in? FINE. And after seeing this girl and her amazing performance in Boston, I’m actually pretty excited. So thanks for kicking me in the butt!!

My close friend, Shalane Flanagan. Well, I follow her on Twitter. Same thing.

Rules have SLIGHTLY changed since last year, but not by much. Oh, and these are MY rules, so you can feel free to add to these, subtract from them, or come up with your own.

  1. I will run a 5K everyday for the month of May
  2. If I am particularly sore or injured, I can walk the 5K
  3. The ONLY excuses for not doing it at all are fever over 100 degrees or a stomach illness (so, just like the rules for attending 3rd grade)
  4. If you miss a day there will be NO BEATING YOURSELF UP and you are NOT out of the challenge. You just pick back up where you left off (sorry but I beat myself up enough -I’m gonna give it the college try but life happens)
  5. I will post everyday on the FB page so that all of you can hold me accountable if I get lazy (or if I have any of the above things going on you can feel sorry for me;)

So that’s it. Pretty straight forward. If you’re just starting to run, my STRONG suggestion would be that you alternate between running days and walking days. That way you won’t risk an overuse injury. But just think! After doing it for 30 days you’ll have developed the HABIT of exercise and may even have improved energy and health! Oh, and if you need some good advice on getting started you can  go to the experts over at Runner’s World. They have a pretty good article here.

So let’s do this thing!! We start Thursday. If you’re in, let me know! Comment below or head over to the FB page and let’s talk about it! And ya better get to shopping – you’re gonna need more than a couple of decent running outfits for this to work unless you want to do laundry every day. Show this to the money manager in your household so they know it’s legit;). I’m the money manager at Chez Lefforge so I just showed it to myself.

Happy running!!

Jen
