Star Wars Half Training Update – 7 Weeks To Go!

Well, this was a weird week.

Why yes, I did get a cupcake when I finished.

First of all, once you’ve given notice at work it’s very weird being there. I’m a person who likes to invest myself everywhere I am, and although leaving in a week doesn’t make that impossible, it does make it seem kind of fruitless. But I am determined to end well and will still be trying to bloom where I’m planted until the last minute. Well, let’s be honest, my last day may be a little dicey.

ALSO this week, in case you don’t follow me on all the things where I’ve been talking about it incessantly, I signed up for and ran a 15K!! It was crazy hills, and I was scared and well . . . I did a whole video on YouTube about it. Actually two whole videos. I shall post them here!
And here is the one I posted today about the race itself
I mentioned in the second video that there was a group running in memory of a young man named Max. He died, tragically, due to a hazing incident at LSU. You can read his story here.

His family was incredible and there were signs along the route but my favorite simply said #takecareofeachother. Such a beautiful reminder. No day is promised, Friends, and those we love are fleeting blessings. I was both sobered and inspired by their love for this young man and also by making sure I live my own life in such a way that I am looking out for the community around me. Good job, Max’s family.

This next week will be somewhat quieter, and it’s going to take me a couple days to recover from the unexpected 15K. I really did try to take it easy and treat it as a training run with bling, but I’m still going to be hurting a little. I’m actually really ahead on my training, so only doing 4-5 for next week’s long run is definitely in order.

Oh, and also this week on my ancestry journey I came across an obituary for my 3rd great-grandma! I KNEW she was a pioneer and I knew she had a lot of kids from stories my Grandma Mary told me. What I didn’t know is that she was a single mom with 14 (yes FOURTEEN children). Wait, what?? Because it wasn’t enough to be a pioneer wife.

And here I sit complaining that my iphone 6 is too slow. I mean, it IS too slow and it is rather annoying but truly not worth wasting one drop of emotional energy on. Too much to do. Too many people to love. Although one could say I could love them better if it didn’t take so long to send them a text message. Clearly, I am a work in progress.

Happy Saturday and may the coming week find you happy, loved and fulfilled. And if it doesn’t, may you have a good friend, a good therapist or a good pet to see you through!
