Star Wars Half Marathon is 6 Weeks Away!

Move over Run Disney Princess runners, it’s OUR TIME. Now, I realize some of you are doing both but I didn’t run Princess  so I will take this opportunity to go ahead and hog all available twitter and social media space with talk of the upcoming Star Wars The Dark Side Half Marathon at Walt Disney World Resort in sunny (and warm and humid) Orlando, FL!

I’m assuming, if you’re reading this, that you’re either training along with me for this great weekend or you’re dreaming of doing it some day. Or you just like reading my blog posts. All are fantastic reasons to be here.

So where am I in my training??

Well, if you remember last weekend, I ran a 15K and it was super hilly and I whined about it incessantly.

It turned out to be a great day and I truly enjoyed it, but it left me somewhat sore and I made the executive decision to not run at all this week. I know. Maybe not the best decision ever.

4 easy miles today will literally be it for this week.

FOUR MILES.

But we’ve got plenty of time and I’m really not concerned. I’m running this race to finish, and Sara and I always sort of meander our way through this particular course for a couple of reasons.

  1. it’s typically SUPER warm and humid and
  2. we are chatting. And if we’re running too fast we can’t chat.
  3. If we wear ourselves out we won’t have any energy left for eating and drinking our way around World Showcase afterward.

Now some of you might think I’m being sarcastic, but no. I’m not even sure if we ever checked our finishing time from last year.

I feel very off balance and I am looking forward to this morning’s miles. As we have discussed, my running is as much about my mental health as my physical health (OK, it’s WAY MORE about my mental health) and I just feel super off. It’s also my very last week of work (last shift Sunday!) before I start my Gap Year/Sabbatical and I’m feeling a bit topsy turvy. I am a person who really loves schedules and routines and all things familiar,  and I’m entering into a fairly big chunk of time where those tings will be the exception not the rule.

Spending a lot of time spring cleaning and organizing. I’ll be re-doing several closets (hopefully next week) and will hopefully get some YouTube videos up about that. I’m actually having a great deal of fun over there, so if you haven’t checked it out yet, please do!

I hope today finds you happy and satisfied with your choices. I’ll end with a picture of  a sign that Scott and I found in a little local shop. I adore Walt Whitman and actually think this blogging thing is sort of like him standing on the street corners yelling his poetry to passers by.

And this quote has always reminded me of time spent with those I love. May you find time to really BE with the people you love this week. Blessings, Friends.

  1. Love the sign. Love your running skirt in the picture. So cute! I think your executive decision to give yourself some rest is a good one. Your body will let you know the right thing to do. You just have to listen!
